Dear Parents and Caregivers,

We would like to make you aware that we have had some cases of school sores (impetigo) within our school community.

School sores are a common childhood skin infection and can spread easily among children, particularly in busy classroom and playground settings. We are sharing this information simply to help everyone stay informed and to support our families in recognising symptoms early.

What to look out for:

Red sores or small blisters
Sores that burst and leave crusty, golden-brown patches
The area may be itchy
School sores spread through direct contact with infected sores, or by sharing items such as clothing, bedding, or towels. Symptoms typically appear around 10 days after exposure.

If you notice any of the above signs on your child:

Please seek treatment advice from your GP or pharmacist.
According to information for the Ministry of Health, children should remain at home until sores have dried up, or at least 24 hours after appropriate treatment has started and any sores on exposed skin are covered.
These steps help protect not only your own child, but also their classmates and teachers.

We understand that childhood illnesses happen, and they are no reflection on a family’s care or hygiene. Thank you for working alongside us to keep our school community healthy and comfortable for everyone.
